After many years of excellence and perseverance in his carrier as a pediatric surgeon, Dr Henri
Ford became in March 2018 the new dean for UM. This achievement is representative
of the success that brought Haitian immigrants with them to far from their country
of origin.
A graduate of Harvard Medical school and a former trainee at the
Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Dr Ford had been over the past 13 years the
vice president and chief of surgery for the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
<<As I reflect on my journey in American medicine, I truly feel I’ve been preparing all my life to assume a role like this one.>> –Dr Ford to Miami Herald
Dr Ford remains bound to his country Haiti. He has been several times to Haiti to help
provide care, train doctors there. According to someone who had contacted him
after the Haiti quake, Dr Ford is an easy-going guy, amicable, who takes time
to respond to his phone calls.
Dr Ford seems to have, as the new dean, a broad vision for MU,
which has shown its dedication to Haiti, especially in the aftermath of the 2010
quake that killed close to 300,000 people and also injured more than 200,000
while leaving many without housings and shelters.
